Most of us have old or damaged photos. Frequently these are treasured memories that cannot be replaced. Studio Mjolnir is pleased to provide photo restoration services so that these photos can be brought back to their original pristine condition. Below we will take you through the process of photo restoration while also providing examples of our work.
As you can see, the original photo (far left) was quite damaged. Aside from the missing edges, several creases throughout had damaged the photo causing detail to be lost. Some of these creases are severe and have damaged important areas of the photo, such as those across the faces.
In the first step of restoration most of the damage in the important parts of the photo has been corrected. However, the missing corners have not been repaired and several of the larger creases in the outlying area remain. Some people choose to only restore to this point, as it retains some character normally associated with old photos.
In the third step of restoration all damage due to creases and folds in the photo has been repaired. Remnants of old writing on the photo near the top have been removed. The only remaining issues are the tape mark in the bottom left and the missing corners. This is the most restoration that can be done without completely recreating parts of the image.
The final image shows a photo that has been completely restored. This photo is as close to the original as is possible. Only heavily damaged photos would require restoration to this degree, but it serves as a good example of how much can be done even for a very damaged photo.
Above you can see finer detail from the restoration process, both of the original image on the left and the fully restored image on the right. Notice that while writing has been removed and large white creases have been filled in, the detail of the restored image still looks natural.
The photo above is another example of our work. This World War II era photo has been restored and can now be preserved in perfect quality forever.
The best part of our restoration is that it is all done digitally, so you do not lose your original photo and it is at no risk of becoming further damaged. Using our professional quality scanners, we make a digital copy of your original photo at a very high resolution. All restoration is performed on this digital copy. When we are done we provide you with a new print of the photo or a high resolution digital image that you can use to print as many copies as you'd like. In most cases you can even print larger photos than original.
Either way, the choice is up to you. Interested in speaking to someone about photo restoration? Contact us at sethmcollins@gmail.com.
